Cooper's Curious and Crafted Kite Company
Written by Red Idea Founder and CEO Ross Shell and published in June 2017, Cooper’s Curious and Crafted Kite Company tells the story of nine-year-old Cooper and his start-up kite business.
During career day, Cooper meets a woman who owns her own business, which gives him an idea—he wants to start a company! With the help of his friends and family, Cooper’s business is born. Along the way, he learns about entrepreneurship, innovation, and what it takes to run a business.
Cooper’s Curious and Crafted Kite Company makes the complexities of entrepreneurship accessible for children. It encourages them to explore their ideas, pursue their passions, and work through their challenges. Shell created a twenty-four page, illustrated reminder that there’s no age requirement on dreaming big.
Though recommended for ages 5-9, the book is a welcome reminder to older children and adults who may have forgotten the importance of pursuing their dreams.
The book is available online at cooperskites.com, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
Praise for Cooper's Curious and Crafted Kite Company
“Childhood is the perfect time to tinker, to experiment, and to occasionally even stumble along the way. If we can get our little guys and girls to undertake a thousand tiny steps on an uncertain path toward a goal, then there will be no limits to what they can do. And, like Cooper’s kites, they will fly high and make us proud.”
“This captivating story compels us to revisit our passions, dreams, and entrepreneurial spirit through the eyes of Cooper. Innovation is at the heart of creativity and this book, Cooper’s Curious and Crafted Kite Company, will help young readers to think of an idea and develop into a business. Our future is bright with the Coopers of the world!”
“The message in this story is just as important to young children as it is to us children living in grown bodies who are still trying to figure out what handcrafted kites are.”
“It is never too early or too late to pursue your dreams. Acting on your passion is the key to making it happen.”
“Working with children like Cooper reminds adults that children’s dreams and ideas are the windows of the future…nurture them, support them, learn from them, and the world is a better place.”
